Infiltration

The pirate chrono-ship The William’s Hunt flew high in the fifteenth century Italian night. The only lights were on the bridge from the flight controls of the helm and the visual display ship’s Pilot Angel Flynn was using to navigate by. The same steam that ran the turbines to create the ship’s electricity was released between pressed glass, and an image of the darkened Italian countryside was projected upon it. The visual range was pushed to the limit so that Angel would have enough warning to cut the engines and coast once a camp was spotted.

Running dark was not just easy, but necessary when spending five days in the past. Not many captains made use of the chrono-ships’ flight ability, but there were some very specific instructions that were to be followed to avoid paradox should they choose to do so. Fly dark, fly high, fly silent. They weren’t always successful. That was when strange objects would show up in the skies of paintings, or were recorded in documents. More often than not the sightings were chalked up as meteors since the chrono-ships’ contrails evaporated quickly thanks in part to the chemical compound the engines burned. The fuel burned clean since it didn’t ignite until it was heated to steam form. The process also made the fuel last longer than a liquid equivalent.

Geri, Nigel and Laurence were on the bridge with Angel dressed for their mission in tight fitted matte black clothing. Laurence shifted and tugged at the garment uncomfortably which amused Nigel. Geri ignored them both in lieu of watching the display. All three men were armed with pistols that were loaded with plasma rounds and nightsticks, but the Security Officer had additions to his arsenal. The gun with the knock out shot that Dr. Hennessey had given him was in a holster designed for it tied to his belt and secured against his thigh with a dull black leather strap. But it was the rifle slung over his shoulder that one noticed first. Laurence had when they had been gearing up in the hold. Geri smirked to himself as he thought about the Horotech’s reaction.
